Additional Program Information
A Professor from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (http://www.ufrn.br/english/index.html) in Natal, Brazil will teach survival Portuguese and Brazilian Culture. English is generally understood in Brazil. Brazilian students will enroll in the courses and expect them to be on hand to help learn the language and culture. Dr. Bhattcharyya is fluent in Portuguese and will be the director of the program for the five-week period. Several quality technical and cultural visits have been arranged. Technical visits to the Petrobras offshore platform and a hydro electric plant Paulo Afonso have been arranged. You will also go on a cultural visit to Salvador and Recife, important centers in the Brazilian northeast. Natal is a beautiful coastal city with almost no crime. The host University (UFRGN) is well equipped and has offered the use of classrooms, library and computer resources.

Cultural and Technical Visits

Cultural visits to Salvador, Bahia, Recife and Olinda, important cultural centers in the Brazilian Northeast.

Technical visits to the Paulo Afonso hydroelectric plant on the River Parana, and a Petrobras offshore platform.

Eligibility

All engineering majors with a 2.5 minimum GPR and in good standing with TAMU are eligible. Other majors are considered by application.

Foreign Language Requirement

None! All courses are taught in English by TAMU Faculty.

Cost of Program
  • $4,000 *

    *cost includes lodging, transportation to and from classes in an air-conditioned bus, cultural and technical visits, computer usage and a survival Portuguese class;
    *cost does not include meals, airfare, tuition, fees, books and spending money.

Scholarships

Through the generosity of corporations and individuals, the College of Engineering is pleased to offer scholarships to students going abroad. The scholarships are competitive and you will be required to fill out a scholarship application form.

The Study Abroad Office also offers scholarships. The first scholarship is a Student Academic Fund (SAF) – need based. The second is an International Education Fund Scholarship (IEFS) – merit based.
