Additional Program Information

The City of Knowledge is located in the heart of the Panama Canal Watershed. The City of Knowledge is spacious and normally very tranquil, especially in the evening and early morning. There are lots of lush green, open spaces for jogging, an Olympic size swimming pool and gymnasium, and there are 3 cafeterias, all at walking distance from the Villas. The Panama Canal is an engineering wonder. Panama began excavation on the 3rd canal. This is a $5.25 billion expansion and is expected to double 50-mile Panama Canal's capacity. New locks are expected to be used between 2014 and 2015. TAMU undergraduate students will work closely with engineers at the ACP on a project that will have a significant impact on the entire world. This program will provide a unique experience for the faculty and students at Texas A&M University to not only obtain knowledge on the cultural issues of Panama, but to also participate in the education of Panamanian engineers and planning for the design and construction. Visits to both cultural and canal sites will be scheduled.
