Program Information

The Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering faculty-led study abroad experience is a three-week program in Tianjin, China that offers chemical engineering students the opportunity not only to broaden their technical skills but also to become familiar with one of the most dynamic and culturally significant countries in the world. Located only 30 minutes from Beijing by high-speed train, Tianjin is China’s sixth-largest municipality, boasting a population of more than 11 million. Although 40 percent of Tianjin’s total area is dedicated to farmland, the municipality remains an important industrial base with major industries including petrochemical, textiles, automotive, mechanical and metalworking. The architecturally rich area features numerous attractions, including the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square and the Great Wall. Tianjin University, established in 1895 with the name of “Peiyang University”, is the first educational institution of higher learning in China. More than 1,800 students attend its School of Chemical Engineering where they receive instruction from 300 faculty members. Students will have the opportunity to participate in both cultural and technical field trips, and Mandarin Chinese instruction will be available. Students will receive full Texas A&M credit upon successful completion.
