Courses Offered (Junior/Seniors Only)
  • CVEN 301 — Environmental Engineering
    Faculty: Dr. Tony Cahill
    Prerequisites: CHEM 107; CVEN 302 or registration therein; MATH 308 or registration therein; or approval of instructor.
  • CVEN 463 — Engineering Hydrology
    Faculty: Dr. Tony Cahill
    Prerequisite: CVEN 339 or approval of instructor.
Program Information

This study abroad program will provide a unique experience for the faculty and students at Texas A&M University to not only obtain knowledge on the cultural issues of Panama, but to also participate in the education of Panamanian engineers and planning for the design and construction of a major Civil accomplishment. Visits to both cultural and canal sites will be scheduled.

Courses will focus on water quality assessment of natural environmental systems, occurrence, distribution and properties of natural water, measurement and engineering analysis. Students will study in Panama for three weeks and then travel to Costa Rica for three weeks. Students will reside in the new TAMU Soltis Study Center in Costa Rica.

Eligibility
  • Junior and Senior engineering majors with a 2.5 minimum GPA and in good standing with TAMU are eligible. Other majors are considered by application.
Foreign Language Requirement
  • None! All courses are taught in English by TAMU Faculty.
Cost of Program
  • To be determined * (Cost in 2009 $3,500)
    * cost includes lodging, program related transportation, cultural & technical visits; cost does not include some meals, airfare, tuition, fees, books, passport and spending money.

  • Students are required to meet with their departmental academic advisor regarding the courses taken abroad (required to take 6 hours).
  • Print the form and make an appointment with advisor.
  • Advisor will keep original.
  • A copy of the form should be sent to Dawna Rosenkranz.
  • Make sure to keep a copy for yourself.
Scholarships
  1. The Study Abroad Office also offers scholarships. The first scholarship is a Student Academic Fund (SAF) – need based. The second is an International Education Fund Scholarship (IEFS) – merit based. If you want additional information, please refer to the Study Abroad web site (http://studyabroad.tamu.edu/schol_grants.asp).

  2. To apply for the College of Engineering Study Abroad Scholarship, print the application below, complete it and return it to Ms. Dawna Rosenkranz by the March 1st deadline.
